Feb 2005

A Word From The President

This is it, the first newsletter of 2005. I hope you all had a good Holiday and are having a good year. With the new year comes a whole new group of opportunities to get out and show the world that the Corvair still lives.

I have been busy for the last month getting signed up for some of the shows I will be attending. This cold weather keeps me in more than I would like, so I have to find something to keep me thinking of the warmer weather. Last week I even went to the storage garage to visit my Corvairs.

The other day I received the February issue of the "CORSA Communique" and the first thing that jumped out at me, was the Lime Rock Weekend results. Our own Bruce Carlton had fast speed for all Corvairs, and was bested by only one other car, a Factory Five Cobra. Now that's what we call getting the most out of a Corvair. Who would have thought that a 67 Corvair would top cars the likes of a 04 Porsche GT3 or a 88 BMW 325i and many other newer, hirsute, water pumpers. Good job Bruce! The Capital District Corvair Club is proud of your accomplishment.

This month is also our first meeting of the year. No one has taken any months for any type of events or trips to coincide with our monthly meetings. With the lack of any other plans, we will be meeting at Fresno's, in down town Troy, at 2PM, Sunday the 20th. (See directions at the end of this Newsletter)There is much to discuss for the year ahead. If you have any thing that you feel we should try as a group. or a place you think we could go to for a meeting, please step up and give it a go. Some feet that we should not meet at car shows, so we need some new ideas and places to meet. Come out to the meeting this month, and lets discuss it.

There is one more thing I need to tell all of you who are not also members of CORSA. CORSA has a ten dollar off a new one year membership. They also have a fifteen dollar off a new 26 month membership. L don't want to seem pushy, but I feel this is a very good offer and if you give CORSA a try you will find it well worth the cost of membership. Anyone interested can let me know and I will get you a coupon. That's it from my corner. Don't forget the February meeting on Sunday the 20th at Fresno's (2PM).

Until next time, remember KEEP THE SHINY SIDE UP

Harold

For those who don't know where Fresno's is, it is located on corner of River and Federal Streets at the end of the Green Island Bridge. Address 377 River Street, Troy. Here are the directions:

Via I-787 and the Green Island Bridge:
Take Exit 8 off 1-787(Twenty-third St.)
-- If you came south on I-787 from the new section of RT 7, (from the Northway), it will be the first exit. Turn left at the end of the ramp.
--If you came north on I-787 from the Albany area, take Exit 8 and turn right.

At the first light go right and you will be on the Green Island Bridge. At the end of the Bridge turn right again, then right again into the parking lot.

Via I-87 and the Collar City Bridge:
Either from the north or south on I-87 (the Northway) take Exit 7 (RT 7 east) towards Troy. You will cross on the Collar City Bridge after about 5 miles.
