A Word From the President
May is finally here. Some times it seems to take forever for some nice weather to make it into the northeast. With good weather here it’s time to get out the Corvairs and show them off. The car show season is now in high gear, so we all have plenty of opportunity to get out and let the world see our little wonders. This month (MAY) we will be meeting at the car show in Saratoga Springs. For those of you who don’t know where the show is, it is in the SPAC parking lot just off NY Rt 50, on May 18th. (See "Future Events" for links to more info) Following along the with the car show meetings, June’s meeting will be at the car show at Hildene, on June 15th. The car shows and cruise-ins are a great way to show off the Corvairs and let people know what a great car it is. Most people think that, because of some bad press that the Corvair was no good and also unsafe (I wonder where they could have gotten that idea). So if we try really hard we can let some others know that it’s really a great car. Now for something new. The April tour and meeting hosted by Bob Addis, although wet, was very good. It’s too bad more members didn’t make it. Bob finds some nice back roads with interesting scenery as well as great destinations. On the April trip to Howe Caverns Bob not only led us on a great back road trip, made arrangements for lunch, set up a tour of the cave, but also gave us some great insight of the cave and its history. Thanks Bob for such a great time. DATES TO REMEMBER: May 18th CDCC Meeting at Saratoga Car show. June 14 & 15th Hildene June 15th CDCC Meeting at Hildene July 15th – 19th CORSA International Convention, Carlisle, PA

Are you an eBay-er? For those of you who are somewhat computer literate will immediately know what I'm talking about. For those of you who are not, I will explain. First of all it is purely an addiction. If you succumb easily to impulse shopping, love flea markets, or just love to shop and buy things eBay is not for you because it will become your opiate. It will seduce and consume you completely until you have no more to give and it will still ask for more. Enough prose. Actually it is a very well organized, and (pardon my Fuccillo) a HUGE public auction house which at any given time, sells just about anything (except firearms). People from all around the world, but mostly from the USA and Canada, who have something to sell, post a description of the item, along with a picture if they wish, and the opening price of the item on "eBay". From there other people who would like to buy something enter in the maximum amount they would pay for the item. After about a week the highest bidder wins, contacts the seller, and consummates the deal. A little risky? Yes. Fun and exciting? Possibly. Addictive? Definitely! Why am I discussing this? Why not. Got anything better? Actually you can find some interesting stuff. Last night I bought a new old stock crate motor for a Chevette. Yes the bane of the Zabinski's is rearing its ugly head again. The Chevette. I was actually collecting stuff to rebuild the engine with, such as another free motor, gasket set, but the thought of valve job costs, pistons, bearings, engine machining. I figured I was into it for at least $600+ and that would be a basic rebuild, not a race prep job. I got the NOS motor for $255 (plus $182 for shipping) so even I was not ready to do the job I figure I'm ahead of the game. At least I hope I am. Naturally, I will keep you posted. Did you check out the Communique's issue on '69 Corvairs. A bunch of interesting stuff is in there and lot of it I never had heard of before. If you don't belong to CORSA, ask to borrow the issue from one of us who is.. Then after you finish reading it go out and join! There's always a bunch of good stuff in there. Worth the admission price. After reading about all the oddball stuff going on with the '69 production kinda makes me want to get out and get one and I'm not really a late model fan! Maybe I can find one on eBay..... Please note that my work email has changed to Ray.Zabinski@vonroll-isola.com . I actually prefer stuff sent there as it is always on. The one at home gets looked at by me occasionally. Thanks, Ray |
