A Word From The President |

|
It was a cold October morning, with some light rain, when I slipped the key into our corvair and started it. We all know that I hate to take our corvair out in the rain, but this was a special day. Today is the Capital District Corvair Club’s autumn tour to Mill’s Mansion and the Gathering of Old Cars. As I rode through the back roads of Rensselaer County I was looking forward to better weather as the club heads south. About forty minutes later we arrive at the meeting place in Castleton. As I pull in to the gas station we don’t see any corvairs, we must be the first one here. I fill my car with gas and go inside to get some warm coffee and something hot to eat. Standing outside trying to stay dry under the building’s overhang, I see Walt Newell pull in and put gas in his 68 coupe. Within a few minutes the Callesano’s pull in with their 64 coupe. Now we are three strong and waiting to see who else would be crazy enough to come out on a day like this. A little while later Bob Addis showed up with his 64 Convertible; now we are ready to go. As we head south on route 9 the rain seems to intensify. Funny, I could swear the weatherman said there would be less rain south of Albany. About an hour and a half passes and we are still trying to keep the fog from taking over the windows. We turn in to Mills Mansion, and can you believe its still raining? It has rained vary hard at Mill’s Mansion and the grounds are very muddy. Still, we try to make the best out of a bad day (glad we all had each other to lean on). After an hour and a half at the car show, not too many cars there, we head out early for dinner. Another hour and a quarter in the rain and we are at the Four Brothers Restaurant. From this point on the day just got better. It’s amazing what hot food and good company can do to turn a day around. After dinner and a meeting, we all left for home looking forward to better days. When I got home the rain was over so I washed the corvair and put it away. Now, if you feel you missed out, or if you feel you lucked out, by missing the October trip and meeting, here is your chance to get some of the excitement back. The November meeting will be held at the Halfmoon Diner, on Sunday, November 16th at 2PM. The December meeting, election and Christmas party will be held Sunday, December 7th, at the Dalrymple’s home. The Christmas party should be on your must do list. With a “pot luck” dinner and a grab bag this is always a good time (look for more information upcoming). That all I have for this month, hope to see all at the November meeting. Remember keep the shiny side up.

(FROM THE MISSING EDITOR'S DESK...IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING)
Well Hello everyone. I'm still here, haven't dropped off the face of the Earth or anything like that. I've just been derelict in my editorial duties this year. To that I am very sorry. Now before you go on and start slammin' me I just want to say one thing. "GO AHEAD AND SLAM ME, I DESERVE IT!" I guess this was the year that wasn't. I'm not sure whether I've burned out of doing this, the kids are getting to the point where they are taking up more time, the website is a forum to get the info out or my changed company e-mail address at the beginning of the year caused a temporary loss in contact with some of you, but, my heart (and typing) just wasn't into it this year. Needless to say I do not think I will be a good candidate for editor any more...... sorry. It is interesting for me to reflect upon my tenure as editor. The only reason I offered to do this ten years ago was the dissention in the ranks with Geof's editorial style. I had just got my first PC and now was an alternative to him. Let me share with you a little secret. I hate writing and organizing. I never was much of a communicator or even a joiner. I fully expected someone else to pick up the darn thing. Well I guess that didn't happen except for a small hiatus a few years back which ended up in the leaving of Geoff from the club. I always did like his newsletter. He was the kind of person who liked doing this stuff. The newsletter I put out was, in my opinion, rushed and never lived up to what I had wanted it to be. I always had BIG ideas as to what I wanted to do but what came out was actually a disappointment to me each month which is why, when I missed my first deadline and issue this year, and realized that the world did not collapse, I was relieved. Unfortunately, that also made it easier to miss another, and another, and essentially the whole year. I am not giving up on the Corvair, Corsa or the CDCC. Probably going to keep a low profile but spend more time actually working on and with them. After thirty years of them they are kinda in my blood, not just a passing fancy. I actually have been hanging around the NECC crowd, helping out where I can, and actually getting slightly bitten by the racing bug again. Good feeling but little money or time. It was great seeing some of
The CDCC members doing well at the National convention. Congratulations to all and keep going. From what I've seen Corvair people are great! Probably the best you'll find. All you guys are too. It's been a fun ride and I hope to see you all soon. Hey, it looks like the Christmas party is Dec. 7th this year. Hopefully not a day of infamy. I guess contact Bob and Arlene for details. Maybe I'll even see you there. -ed. |
