September 2005

A Word From The President

Here we are, it’s September already and we are all wondering where the summer went. But wait, before I get all wound up about where summer went, I have some things I want to say about the meeting and tour in August. The August tour was one of the best monthly meeting / activities we have had. I need to thank Bob Addis for spending the time and energy to make August 2005 a meeting to be remembered. Bob you are a great tour guide. I also want to thank Bob Landrio and his wife Debbie for giving us a tour of their Sold Gold Amusements. Bob went all out to give us not just a tour of their building and displays but also the very interesting history of their collection. Again I want to thank Bob Addis, the Landrios and all who came along for the day, We really had a great time.

We had a nice group of cars on the tour. Bob Addis led the way with his 64 Monza Convertible, followed by Jim and Monica Stewart with their 1776 Flag painted 1965 Monza Convertible. Next in line was Peter Callesano with his daughter Maggie in their 64 Monza Coupe, followed by Cindy and I in our 66 Monza Convertible, and behind us was Steve and Sherri Ruggles along with Hilda Groesbeck in their 66 Monza Convertible. That may have been the end of the Corvairs but it certainly wasn’t the end of the line. Behind the Corvairs was Chris Glander, along with his father in their 1970 Nova, still with under 26,000 miles. And bringing up the rear, keeping us all out of trouble, was Walt and Jean Newell. Now we all know that Walt’s Corvairs aren’t ready for the road yet, so he brought their Taurus.

It’s time now for me to get back to September. With the days getting shorter and the weather getting cooler, it’s time to get out and enjoy your Corvair while you still can. In a few short weeks it will be time to put them away again. So get out there and let everyone see that Corvair. This month there is still a lot of activities like the car shows and cruise ins listed below. If you want to try something different, how about a day on the road course at Lime Rock. Also this month’s CDCC meeting will be held at the Bennington car show and Swap meet, on Sunday the 18th. Our meeting will be at Walt and Jean Newell’s trailer, in the Swap meet area, at 1:00 PM. This year the Bennington- Hemmings Car Show and Swap Meet will be held at the Green Mountain Racetrack, which is 6 miles south of Bennington on US Route 7, in Pawnal VT.

The October meeting, again this year, will include a trip to the Gathering of Old Cars at Mills Mansion, Staatsburg, NY. After we leave the car show we will be having dinner, probably at the Four Brothers. I have some good news. It looks as if the Christmas Party is on. There will be more on the time and place in future news letters.

Well that’s about it from here. So remember get that Corvair out for a good time and by all means KEEP THE SHINY SIDE UP. Harold
