NECC Track Events - Classifying Your Corvair

NECC Corvair Classification Calculator

NECC has a number of classes for Corvairs that participate in time trials, including Street Stock, Improved Stock, Street Modified, Competition and Specialty Classes. Please read the NECC Classification Rules for Track Events and classify your car before coming to the track.

Street Stock, Competition and Specialty Corvairs are easy to classify because the rules for these classes are simple. However, the distinction between Improved Stock and Street Modified cars can be a bit tricky.

So to avoid confusion, we present the following NECC Track Classification Calculator. Click on the radio buttons to designate the modifications you have made to your Corvair. If the point total is less than or equal to 125, then your Corvair belongs in the Improved Stock class. If the point total exceeds 125, then your Corvair belongs in the Street Modified class or the Competition class.

The table shown above is an automated replica of the table that appears in the NECC rule book. Cars in other classes may disregard this Improved Stock checklist.

Notes for Table Above:

1. A-arms and (rear) trailing arms only.

2. Normally Aspirated cars only. Changes limited to bolt on only. The addition of TBI units or runners for a center mounted carb or TBI unit is permitted. No welding or machining of cylinder heads permitted.

3. Turbocharged cars only. Changes limited to bolt on only. The addition of TBI units or runners for any single carb (including multiple barrel Weber, Holley, etc.) is permitted.

4. No welding or machining of cylinder heads permitted.

5. Incidental compression changes due to cylinder bore changes or cylinder head swaps are permitted.

6. The maximum points for any ignition system including independent DIS is 15.

You don't need to weigh your car to pass NECC tech inspection. But you may want to know its weight distribution if you're trying to tune its suspension.
