1969 Ultra Van #492 (Pueblo, CO)
#492 is one of the last of the Corvair-powered Ultra Vans. The 110 hp Corvair engine is equipped with a Carter Engine Knock Eliminator and low compression pistons to permit operating on regular gas. An auxiliary transmission cooler helps keep the Powerglide automatic transmission in the green.
The steering wheel has been upgraded to a larger diameter to reduce steering effort. High back front bucket seats with tilt and swivel replace the original bench seats. Windshield wipers have been ugraded with washer jets in the blades and an additional third wiper in the center section (not currently installed).
The passenger side window is equipped with a sliding screen. A folding extension to the galley counter provides extra space for food preparation. The interior paneling color is Danish Walnut.
The Ryerson service manual, original color sales brochure, and documentation of all mechanical improvements are included. Many spares are also provided, including an engine head, rear axle, defroster fan, roof vent cover, gaskets, air filter, reflectors, and taillight lens.
This coach has the improved lower maintenance plumbing system which features 50 gallon freshwater and holding tanks.
#492 was last started and moved in 2007, and has not been driven on the road since 2002. Batteries (two), windshields (left and right), and roof vent covers (front and rear) will require replacement.
