1966 Corsa Crown
Conversion
Gary's 1966 Corsa
has a stock body except for the cut out under the front bumper for
the air intake. The 350 rebuilt Chevy engine
, has Comp Cam Extreme Energy 262; 10:1 pistons, dual plane
intake manifold and double hump heads. He used a HEI distributor,
roller tip rocker arms with screw in rocker arm studs.
He modified the sub frame by cutting off the front
cross-piece, then cutting into "thirds" and welded the ends under
the motor mounts.
The center is rotated 90 degrees and welded under the "long" rails,
with a 1/2 " spacer plate in between.
The tranny is a regular Corvair 4 speed, with a 4
spider gear differential. The rear suspension has original factory
HD springs, nylon tyranny mount bushings and hard rubber trailing arm
bushings. The differential attachment is Rick's Heim joint setup and
the lower struts are heim joints.
The wheels are 15 X 7 Monte Carlo Early
Rally Wheels with 205-60-15's on the front and 235-60-15's on the rear.
The four wheel disc brakes brakes were adapted from an early '80s Cadillac Eldorado with a power master cylinder and 7" dual diaphragm
booster from
Master Brakes.
On the to do list : rebuild and install
Edelbrock 1406 vacuum secondary carb, rebuild front transmission,
finish POR 15 under the front half of the car, install 4 core '81
Camaro radiator, modify the wiring harness, install power brake
booster unit, install Wills shifter linkage and Hurst shifter,
install factory original tinted glass, install electric window kit,
make firewall and......paint.
1965 Monza Crown Conversion
The 1965 Monza
has the stock body, now in black primer. For the interior
Gary has installed '68 Camaro bucket seats.
The engine is a Chevy
327 CI with
Carter
AFB mechanical secondary's, single plenum manifold, double hump
heads, Mallory dual point distributor.
The tranny
is Corvair 4 speed with a Corvair differential.
The
suspension is also original Corvair.
The cooling system is a 3 core radiator
with
an early 2000 Lincoln shrouded electric fan and high volume water
pump.
Gary has slotted Mag wheels for the car with
195-60-14's on the front and 235-60-14's on the rear. The brakes are
stock shoes with a dual master cylinder.
Gary's wife, Kari, sends a warning to all other
V8 spouses: "Don't leave a Corv8 alone by itself in a 2 car garage,
or soon it will clone itself and then you will have two of them."
