1965 Corsa Crown
Conversion
Russ has owned several V8 powered Corvairs. This
particular one originated in California.

The car has a bright three- color red, blue and
silver custom paint scheme with yellow and green pinstripes.
The engine in the usual mild 350 Chevy
small block V8 with a set of roller rockers and Crown style headers with
Turbo mufflers. The transmission is a big Chevy power glide with
adapter. Russ designed and fabricated an aluminum removable custom
engine cover.

The interior of the car
has
swivel bucket seats with a center console from a Camero including the
shifter for the automatic transmission. A custom Grant Formula style
steering wheel tops the Corvair adjustable telescopic steering column
connected to a quick ratio steering box. Three auxiliary gauges occupy
the area above the radio. The glass all around is tinted.
A laid back front mounted cross flow radiator
handles cooling the beast. Below the bumper air inlets
and a Z28 spoiler direct air to the radiator. Electric fans are employed
along with a high volume water pump pushing Evans NPG coolant.
Suspension is basically a stock setup with Crown sway
bars, Heim joint lower strut rods
and bracing for the transaxle, which runs a 3:55 gear ratio. Brakes are
Master Power Brake boosted disc up front with drums and metallic shoes
in back.
The wheels are the ever-popular Camaro type with
205-50-15 front tires and 225-60-15 rears.
Russ has sold this car.
