1965 Monza Crown
Conversion
Lance's Torch Red car is or Was a 1965 Coupe. It now resembles a
cross between a Ferrari and a Pro Stock drag car with the serious muscle
to back it up. All
of the body modifications are real steel, no plastic. The Testarossa
side intakes are functional, ducting air to the engine compartment along
with the above the roof bug catcher scoop for the 6 % overdriven, 671
Jimmy blower
sucking through two Carter 625 CFM carbs on the 350 Chevy motor. It is
needless to say that the motor has been seriously worked over with all
the go-fast goodies to match the look of the car.
The drive train
is an Oldsmobile 425 Turbo Hydramatic with a TCI 2100 RPM stall speed
converter and modified to shift harder, depending on how far your foot
is into the carpet!
The drive adaptor
is made from a 10" steel pipe and a 1/4" plate. After all the welding
was done, it was taken to a machine shop where it was trued and squared.
Special axle shafts mate with the Corvair U-joint yokes.
Rear suspension is modified torque arms with upper and lower strut
rods with polyurethane bushings and disc brakes.
Note the offset lower shock mount. The front suspension has modified
autocross springs with disc brakes and quick ratio steering arms.
Wheels are Shelby Americans, 14" X 7" front and 14" X 9" rear with
knock offs. Tires are BFG Euro T/A's 185-60-14 at the front and
245-50-14 on the rear.
Cooling is handled by a GM cross flow radiator
modified in a double pass up front with two electric fans.
The interior sports a pair of Corbeau seats with multi point
harness, a roll bar, GT four spoke wheel and Auto Meter gauges.
The console has a selection of Hurst Lightning Rod levers to choose from
and the upper half of the rear firewall is Lexan. A fire extinguisher
resides under the dash along with a killer stereo.
Like the license plate says,
Altered--meaning not only the car but your state of mind in this
machine.
