1969 Monza Front Engine Conversion

Mike's Monza began as a project in 1995 and first hit the street in 2002. It really has a lot of eye appeal   1969 Monza with the Freightliner orange Z28 style stripes over basic Corvette white. The car has other subtle body work but the major lines of the late model Corvair stand out. This is as it should be because Mike has been in love with the second generation Corvairs since 1974 and still owns his first Corvair, a 1965 Monza.

This particular conversion of a body over frame sits on a 1985 Monte Carlo chassis. The car was built to drive and have fun with. It has turned a 12.6 @ 109 MPH at the home track on street tires and was shown at the 2004 National Corvair Convention at Lexington KY where Mike ran Racing Corvair a 13.6 @ 91MPH during the Racers Reunion. The interior carries out the orange and white paint theme and includes a set of front seats from a 1988 Fiero. The rear seat is stock Corvair. The  Corsa instrument panel Instrument Panel contains a full set of white faced Autometer gauges. A Quarter Stick shifter handles the gear changing. A roll cage has also been installed.

The stock 350 TPI engine is from a 1988 Corvette 1988 Corvette Engine and sports some polished aluminum dress up parts. A stage one nitrous oxide system gives a nice juice boost when needed.

The driveline consists of a 700R4 automatic transmission actuated by a B&M Quarter Stick shifter.

The front suspension remains mostly stock with a  2" dropped spindles. In the rear Mike runs a 4:11 twelve bolt posi from a 1964 Chevelle.

Cooling is by a radiator and electric fans from a 1987 Trans AM. Air is admitted through a cutout in the lower valence panel Air Cut Outs and a custom spoiler helps direct it to the radiator.

The wheels are Weld Drag Stars with 15 X 6 in front carrying a 195-65-R15 tire Weld Drag Star Wheels and 15 X 7 on the rear carrying a 245-60-R15 tire.
