1965 Corsa Crown Conversion
Ted Trevor has verified Brian's V8 Vair
as one of several factory built conversions. This one was originally
done for Ted's shop foreman. It is an excellent example of all the
goodies Crown offered.
The interior of the car has the Crown engine firewall
with integral fixed position seats and lid.
The padded inserts and optional carpeting can also be seen along with a
sturdy seat belt. A wood grain adjustable steering wheel is also
present.

The engine
is a
Chevy small block 327cubic inch producing 365 horse power from a Corvette
with a Holley four-barrel carburetor on
an aluminum intake manifold and Corvette finned aluminum valve covers .
Crown custom headers are installed along with a set of turbo mufflers
and a cross over pipe to smooth out the exhaust pulses. The transmission
is a Crown modified close ratio four speed with a 3:27 ratio four-speed
differential gear.
The cooling system is standard Crown with a cross
flow radiator mounted vertically up front.
Cooling air is ducted from a full width cut out under the front bumper
aided by a Z28 spoiler. The electric fan is vintage Crown consisting of
a heater motor with a Crown fan blade and surround attached to the
radiator bracket. Fan control is manual by actuation of the original
heater blower switch on the dash.
Water is carried by Crown supplied pipes including
the high point filler neck. Air outlets are cut into the low-pressure
area of the inner wheel wells per Crown instructions. Eight rows of
louvers
have been cut in the front lid.
Crown HD springs and sway bars all around handle the
suspension. The differential has the lower control arm relocation
bracket and is braced by the Crown supplied angle iron
attached directly to the body sheet metal. Exhaust cross over can be
seen in this photo.
Wheels are chrome reverse
with beanie caps and BFG white letter TA's.
