1966 Monza Crown Conversion

Paul is the original owner of this previously 180 turbo powered car and it is the second Corvair he has owned. He refers to it as "The never ending story" which he began in 1969. However, this one has some very unique features which influenced some of us other owners. 1966 Monza The paint is red, as it was from the factory. A small spoiler has been added to the rear deck lid along with a Garvin front air dam. Side air inlets Side Inlets have been added just above the rocker panels.

Paul's car was on the cover of the very first issue of the CORSA Communiqué featuring water cooled Corvairs. Check it out in volume 15, issue number 11, November 1993.

The interior is basically stock black with factory tinted glass.

The engine in this car is certainly one of a kind. Outward appearances say it's the usual small block Chevy and it is, but this one is an aluminum 283 cubic inch version. Heads The heads are aluminum Bowtie with forged aluminum pistons on pink rods and a forged crank. The oil pan, valve covers, water pump and bell housing are also aluminum. It has a 30/30 cam with solid lifters and originally a Z28 intake manifold with a Holley carb. The headers Headers are by Crown. The latest addition is an item picked up at a swap meet, an original Hilborn mechanical fuel injection system complete with the trademark pipe organ velocity stacks. Engine Talk about eye appeal!

The transaxle is a four speed with a 3:55 with four spider gears in the differential. Suspension is stock Corvair with quick steering and Crown sway bars front and rear. The cooling system is the standard Crown arrangement up front with air inlets under the front bumper.

Wheels are real 14" X 7" Minilites all around. Wheels
