1960 Coupe
Toronado Conversion
This 1960 2 Door Coupe 700 Series
was a graduation gift to Trey's father from his parents. He drove it
as a stock Corvair until 1972,
when the drive shaft broke. At that time it was converted to a V8
using the Toronado setup with a stock 1966 Olds Toronado 425 cubic
inch, 385 horsepower engine. The radiator is placed up front
with 1 1/2 " copper tubing carrying coolant to and from the engine.
The generator from the stock Corvair engine was
re-wired and turned into an electric motor to power the fan. The
transmission
is the stock 1966 Turbo-Hydramatic 425.
The corvair axles were shortened 2" to keep
the wheels
under the car. Trey is using stock 15" Toronado wheels on the rear
with stock 13" Corvair wheels in front.
Trey has had this car since 2003 and plans to
show the car in Jacksonville FL in 2009. If you have any comments or
