I have two cars to sell: one is a project but complete 64 Monza coupe and the other is a derelict 64 convertible that was the car in the movie, "1969". I want to sell them.
PRICES ARE NEGOTIABLE, SO PLEASE CALL OR WRITE.
Here is the story about the convertible that appeared in the movie. After moving to South Carolina, I acquired this '64 Monza convertible around 2003 from a Mr. Tremier in Beaufort, SC, where he had been a Chevrolet dealer "back in the day". It was a complete running, driving car, but it got stored in a field when I got divorced and went to disrepair. The top went away and the floors started rusting. Of course, the interior suffered greatly.
I finally listed it on local Craigslist, hoping someone would want to try to save it or use it for parts. I got a call from a younger Tremier, who noticed the ad. He told me that this was one of 2 cars rented to the production company filming the movie, "1969", in Beaufort. They came to his father's dealership needing 2 identical Corvair convertibles. (When using a "hero car", production always duplicates it for several reasons. Later, I was a Picture Car coordinator myself.) His was white and his mother had a black one.
They agreed to paint both cars red and repaint them to whatever color desired after filming. He wanted his blue. I always wondered why there was blue over red over white on this car. This was his car!
I figure some CORSA member would want to buy this car to save a piece of Corvair history. And if you'd want to do a story on this car, I'd be glad to help. The photos shown here are of the car that appeared in the movie.
